reflection on edtech
For the past five months, I have been engaged in an online class called Educational Technology. This class took place on a fun and interactive website called Schhology.com. It was like a social site only it was designed for school work. I was really excited to start this course as it was different from the rest and it was a bit more interested than the other. In the first week, we got to know each other by learning how to make what was called a voki using voki.com. Voki is an educational tool that allows users to create their own talking character. We designed our voki and used it to introduce ourselves to the rest of the class. The second task was to read an article about technology integration and provide a response to the questions asked. Questions like
1. What is technology integration?
2. What is it not?
3. What are the barriers to technology integration?
During the weeks, we were giving several tasks to complete and post on schoology for the class and teacher to view. Over time the ability to use schoology and other technologically inclined task became more manageable. The entire point of this course was to educate teachers in training about technology and how to enhance lessons with technology. We learnt how to do the assure model which is an instructional model for planning a lesson and the technology that will enhance it.
After learning to plan lessons using the assure model. We were taught how to make other technologically inclined class enhancers like a movie, interactive PowerPoint and our very own website.
When I reflect on this course, I feel compelled to say it was a good one. I learnt so much about my computer that I didn’t know I could do. The teacher was very flexible and she ensured that each student were on the right track. The tools were effective and were up to date. For each task, the teacher would upload a tool whether it be a link, a video, or even a passage that must be read. They were very useful in the completion of the weekly task and the major course works. I can say without a doubt that I have grown technologically and it is proven as when I go home I am the person who handles the PowerPoint for church. Everyone loves my creativity; creativity that was not there before educational technology class. I
I have just completed my Webquest, Wiki, Weebly account and a Podcast and not just that, I placed them all in one website. Also I placed the link to a cd so that my teacher would have access to the website. All these were things I thought I would never be able to and I have done it and feel comfortable in myself that it was fairly well done.
As good as the course may seem, there were some setback but very few. At times it was hard to get access to the internet to get to the site and this was often times a set back as without the internet it didn’t make sense to attempt a task. What I would recommend for any school that is planning on using this site to pursue a course, it to first ensure that the internet connection is good enough and works well.
Another set back was that some of the students were not as competent as should be. I don’t have any recommendations as I saw where my teacher did her best to try and make every one as competent as possible. She took the time out to help each student move from the point that they are at.
